The Gift of Reason of charmed or enslaved Mages and heroes. I guess there are three types of Gift of Reason. Ideally, make them NOT hidden, although in a way that does not clutter the interface. Originally posted by Zonk:Maybe reduce the cost by only 25% rather than 50%, but give "hidden" paths to more summons. That's probable 20 gems of investment in just the boosters you need, or aternstively, the turns of mages that can help win most battles.Īnd even then, what you summoned isn't giving you anything that you couldn't pay gold to recruit. And then you still need a Nature 3 mage with a booster to caster Gift of Reason. Sure, only 13 death gems for 12 of them, but that is a death mage and skull staff being used. The barrier to entry is reason enough to reduce the cost. It takes at least 2 mage turns, and usually good mage turns, to make it function. Put that all together, and no, I don't see a huge problem with paying 10 gems for the Gnome, because the cost was much greater then ten gems.Īctually, that is the case with Gift of Reason in general. You say that paying only 10 nature gems for it would be to low, but you don't take into account the risks of battle, the chances of failures and the cost of having your mage in battle instead of at home researching, or site search or forging or casting rituals. As long as you discount the risks you took to seduce the Leader, the chances of failure and the logistics of getting to the point. When ever you seduce a leader, you get it for free. This isn't thought through in my humble opinion. Your proposal effectively hands some select nations cheap 10 (+ a little) gem mage summons while the vast majority has no such opportunity. They usually cost more than 20 gems and closer to 30 for a three path mage as well. And 20 nature isn't that expensive when you consider how much you pay for mage summons. Enslave mind + gift of reason is an option as well on a much wider variety of targets than allowed for here. Originally posted by disnegativ:I have gift of reasoned gnomes (e2n2) I got from events. Maybe reduce the price of Divine Name to 15?Īnyway, I was curious, if Gift of Reason was only 10 Nature gems, are there any viable units you would make commanders? I think the only balances that might be necessary is maybe increasing the cost of Tartarian Gate from 10 Death gems to 15, if that is even necessary.Īs for Divine Name, it is a bit better than Gift of Reason, since you can use it on Juggernauts, but I don't think that is done too often. I could even see arguments for making Angel of the Heavenly Choir thugs or Aspapas. Most of the summons are still not worth giving reason to, but I could see the Lampad almost being worth it for 10 Nature gems, and 2 power mage turns (and keep in mind, that is a cost as well). I would think that reduce the cost of Gift of Reason to 10 Gems would give it a lot more options, without upsetting the balance at all. The only reason for Gift of Reason seems to be the Tarts. These are probably the best summons to give Gift of Reason to, but at 20 Nature gems, plus the initial summoning cost and turn, all of them are hopeless over costed at 20 Nature Gems. The Jinn Warrior costs 18 fire gems for 3 (6 per Jinn) and gives you access to 2 Air and 2 Fire, both of which you have wide access to already for Na'Ba. For an extra 20 Nature gems, you get a thug that might not have any magic. For Bandar or Patala, it might give you access to Air, but both probably also will have access to Fairy Queens at this time. They are a Blood 8 summon that requires Blood 5, but does give you a thug that has access to blood or Air. The Danava costs 75 blood slaves for 3 (so 25 per). Since Lampads require 3 Death to cast and most of the mages that can summon already have Astral and Nature, the addition isn't all that great. The Lampad costs 13 Death gems for 12 (so a bit over 1 Death gem each) and gives you access to 1 Astral, 2 Death and 1 Nature. The fact that it can break you into Blood is the only value it has over its regular unit form. The Keres costs 12 death gems for 3 (so 4 per), and gives you access to ! Blood and 1 Death. There are a few summons that get paths when they are given Gift of Reason, like the Keres, the Lampads, some angels, Asrapa, Jin Warrior, but only 4 seem to offer any significant paths outside of the Tarts. I've been considering the Spell Gift of Reason (and to a lesser extent Divine Name), and it occurs to me, that almost nothing is worth 20 Nature Gems except maybe the Tarts.
